HISTORY OF Omicron Zeta Sigma Chapter
The Omicron Zeta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., was the work of several Brothers over the course of a year, 2009. There were many Brothers who lived in and around the Prince William County, VA, communities, who felt the undying need to have Sigma represented well throughout the large, suburban, and progressive County. It was the intent of the Brothers to grow and expand Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., into Prince William County due to the need for a more visible presence and commitment to the education, scholarship, and mentoring of male students, in particular.

The Brothers being of diverse demographic backgrounds: Military, civilian, neophytes, veteran prophytes, businessmen, professional educators, legal professionals, civic leaders, ministers, etc., pledged to reach out and reclaim Brothers back to our wondrous band. The Brothers who would become the charter members of Omicron Zeta Sigma, began meeting at local restaurants and eventually made their consistent monthly meeting place, K2’s Restaurant and Lounge – a minority-owned business in Woodbridge, VA. By phone, E-mail, text messaging, Brothers were on the lines, thundering back the call for SIGMAS.

As a result of the efforts of a few Brothers, reminiscent of our Honorable Founders, the course was set to establish a chapter charter. Brothers made it their business to connect with the leaders and executive boards of alumni chapters all over the Commonwealth of Virginia, reaching as far south to Zeta Delta Sigma, in Portsmouth/Hampton Roads; as central as Iota Sigma in Richmond, and as far north as Theta Tau Sigma in Northern Virginia. The call back was “Blu Phi…You Know” as Brothers all around the state celebrated the vision, mission, purpose, and need for the Omicron Zeta Sigma alumni chapter to be chartered in Prince William County, Virginia.

Yielding to our fraternity’s motto “Culture for Service and Service for Humanity” the thirty-six Brothers who were now charter members of Omicron Zeta Sigma unveiled the official charter certificate on January 16, 2010, during the inaugural chapter retreat. This planned seven hour closed session yielded phenomenal results, as the elections of the first executive board was selected in true “conclave” spirit, and installed with formal dignity. Serving as the chapter’s executive board were: Director of Social Action, Bro. Anthony Rush; Director of Bigger and Better Business, Bro. Larry Wiley; Director of Education, Bro. Kevin Smith; Chaplain, Bro. Stevenson Reed; Corresponding Secretary, Bro. Kirk Scott; Recording Secretary, Bro. Ronald Wilkes; Financial Secretary, Bro. Kevin Davis; Treasurer, Bro. Donald Jemison; 2nd Vice President, Bro. Charles Stewart; 1st Vice President, Bro. Moultrie T. Glover, Jr.; President, Bro. Sean A. McDonald, Sr.

The charter was signed by the 33rd International President, Hon. Bro. Jimmy Hammock, and the general board and issued on November 1, 2009.
